Stretch run not grinding down Osi

On a team hit by injuries, Osi Umenyiora has been an anomaly. The defensive end, who has battled knee and hip pain all season, is feeling better as the season grinds on.

Umenyiora has usually stayed out of Wednesday practices to rest his hip and knees, but volunteered to step in this week as needed.

"Dave Tollefson was hurting a little bit so we didn't have any ends. I decided to go in there and help them out," he said.

"Im definitely feeling better, no question. My knee feels great and my hip feels good. Everything is feeling good right now."

Umenyiora has 47 total tackles this season and eight sacks. He said his hip and knee have felt better in the past few weeks.

"In the beginning, I was terrible and then as the season progressed, I started feeling no pain." said Umenyiora, whose knee limited him in practice Thursday.

He added that he has not needed a shot for pain in "a long time."

REMEMBER ME?
Devin Thomas, who was waived by Washington after Game 4, said he came in wanting to contribute when his former team comes to the New Meadowlands Stadium - on or off the field.

"I did have a little insight, little tidbits here and there to let the guys know what to expect," Thomas said. "Just as individual players, I helped them out a little bit this week."

OUT IN OPEN
LT David Diehl (hamstring) WR Steve Smith (pec), C Shaun O'Hara (foot) and CB Aaron Ross (back) were out doing drills for the second straight day.

Smith and Diehl were limited in practice.

"Steve did a little something, moved around, caught some balls, good progress," Tom Coughlin said.

"Diehl worked; O'Hara didn't," Coughlin said. "Diehl has been getting a couple of snaps, does individual (drill), gets a few snaps."

Coughlin said he would wait and see how Diehl felt Friday before deciding if he will play on Sunday.

CB Will Blackmon (chest), WR Hakeem Nicks (lower leg) and T Shawne Andrews (back) did not practice Thursday.

Nicks saw a doctor after practice

"Good progress, good progress," Coughlin said. "They are not ready to let him run yet, but if he continues like he is, they will, I think, allow him to start to exercise shortly."

Coughlin said he had "nothing to report" on Andrews.
