In what may go down as the highly most anticipated NBA game to be played in the month of December, Miami Heat forward LeBron James made his return home to play against the Cleveland Cavaliers—the team he spent the first seven seasons of his career with.
In a game filled with plenty of emotions, the King dropped 38 points to go with five rebounds and eight assists as the Heat crushed the Cavs 118-90 on Thursday. After the game, TNT’s Craig Sager interview James for almost two minutes—asking him a few questions about everything he was felling about the return to Cleveland. However, it was one particular question
After the game, Sager asked, “The fans had their say tonight, what would you like to say to them if you could?” This was LeBron’s response:
"Seven great years loved every part, loved every moment, from the growth when I was an 18-year old kid to a 25-year old man. We tried our best as a team to bring a championship to this city and just try to play hard every night. I got the up most respect for this franchise, the up most respect for these fans and you know just continue the greatness for myself here in Miami and try to get better every day."
Well done King James—this was a very professional response for the most part. The only part that could be different was the reference about continuing the “greatness.” A comment like this probably made some of his former fans hate him even more.
Luckily, James realized after the game some people may take what he said out of context—so the King took the time to clarify what he really meant on Twitter.
“Did a post game interview with Craig Sager and I mentioned "Greatness" and I didn't mean myself individually, I meant to say US as a TEAM working towards "Greatness". Anyways Great Team Win for US tonight!”
And a great team win it was for LeBron and the Heat as they finally looked like a complete team after struggling at certain times during the first 19 games of the season.
