So, why are you paying that much for auto insurance?
Don't pay with coins. Whenever you buy something, take the change you get back and put it into a big jar. You really won't miss the change, especially since most people don't like having to carry it around. It really adds up quickly though! If you just put in .50c worth of change a day, you will have over $180 extra at the end of the year! Everyone can use an extra $200!
Use coupons for everything. Most stores, restaurants, grocery stores, and drug stores accept coupons. Many times stores will even accept their competitor's coupons in order to try to get their business! Spending a few minutes looking for a coupon for a specific store can save you a lot of money. If you go through the Sunday paper, mailers that get sent to your home, and just pay attention when you're out shopping, you can keep those coupons with you - and if you're in one of those stores, use it to save some money! This takes almost no time, but will really save you a lot.
Shop around. Yes, it does sound obvious, but sometimes even just by looking at a second store for the price of something can save you a lot of money. If you're going to go out to shop for something, consider looking online first to see what the basic price range is (especially if it's a big ticket item!) and then when you go to the store, you'll know what rough price you want to pay for it. You might also find a good sale that you didn't know about, and get your item for a lot less then you expected.
Ask for a lower price. It seems silly, but many times if you just ask for a discount or a better price, you can get it on many items. This especially works well for a service, or a hotel room! If you just ask, a lot of times you can negotiate a better price, or they will tell you about some discount that you might be able to use. It's something that only takes a second, and can't hurt…but you can really end up spending a lot less!
Use a shopping list. When you go to a store just to "browse" or go grocery shopping without a list, you will end up getting a lot more then you bargained for! If you go with a list of exactly what you need to buy, and only buy what is on that list, you know ahead of time how much you will spend, and exactly what you will get.
