GALLATIN — Macon County stayed alive by cooling off one of the hottest teams in Middle Tennessee on Monday night.
The Lady Tigers beat Christ Presbyterian Academy 52-50 in a Region 5-AA semifinal at Volunteer State, ending the Lady Lions' 14-game win streak.
"Exciting — you can't put it into words," Macon County Coach Jeff Beam said. "Let me tell you something, that was a game for the ages. That was a special, special moment."
Macon County sophomore Haley Harris hit two free throws with 54.5 seconds left to give the Lady Tigers a 50-49 lead, and they led the rest of the way.
"It felt great hitting them," Harris said. "I wanted to win really bad to keep going. CPA was tough."
Macon County (26-3) will play David Lipscomb in Wednesday's championship at 7 p.m.
Center Calamity Jane Coley scored 13 points to lead three Lady Tigers in double figures. Faith LeGate led CPA (27-6) with 17 points.
"We've had such a good year, and the girls weren't ready for it to end," CPA Coach Becky LeGate said. "We had the lead and had a couple of turnovers there. They're a good team and we just didn't weather that storm."
David Lipscomb 61, Sycamore 41: Lady Mustangs junior point guard Emily Easter had 10 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
"They spread out, so I could drive more," Easter said.
"It feels like we've accomplished a lot this year, especially with having no seniors. I thought it would be closer than that."
Anna Follese scored 13 points off the bench to lead five Lady Mustangs (25-5) in double figures.
Sycamore (19-11), which set a school record with 18 3-pointers against Macon County on Feb. 21, hit 7 of 34 against Lipscomb.
