Kent State 74, Western Michigan 72: Golden Flashes rally past Broncos

KALAMAZOO — Michael Porrini came off the bench to score 19 points, including a tie-breaking jumper with 2 seconds left, and Kent State rallied to beat Western Michigan, 74-72, tonight.

The Golden Flashes (18-9, 9-3 Mid-American Conference) trailed by as much as nine and were down 68-61 with 4:27 to play before rallying.
Flenard Whitfield scored 24 points for the Broncos (15-11, 7-5) and his lay-up with 48 seconds remaining tied it at 72.

Kent State’s Justin Greene then missed a jumper, but Porrini grabbed the rebound and the Flashes worked the clock down to set up his game-winning shot.

Rodriquez Sherman and Greene each added 14 points for Kent State, which has beaten Western Michigan five straight times.

Demetrius Ward scored 19 for the Broncos.
