Feb. 22 roundup: Ferndale holds off Seaholm

WHAT HAPPENED: Joe Baker needed just a little room with 3 seconds remaining and the scored tied at 62, and teammate Willie Harvey gave it to him with a solid screen behind the three-point line. Baker took an inbounds pass from Anthony Rice and nailed a triple at the buzzer as Ferndale (11-7, 7-6 OAA White) held off a frantic fourth-quarter comeback by Seaholm (5-12, 4-10 OAA White). Seaholm trailed, 62-56, late in the fourth, but two quick triples tied the game.

OVERHEARD: "We actually had designed a play to set a screen for Joe Baker, expecting that (Seaholm) would come out in man-to-man defense," Ferndale coach Tom Staton said. "But when they came out in the zone, it made it easier for Willie Harvey to set the pick."

OVERHEARD II: "It was either going to be Joe (Baker) for three, or we were going to screen the screener (Willie Harvey) and give to ball the Harvey after the screen. But as soon as I saw them come out in zone, I said, 'Joe, it's yours, it's yours,' " Staton said.

TOP SCORERS: Harvey scored 21 points and Baker 12. Seaholm's Shawn Conway scored 28 points.
