While Lincoln was missing a third of its team against Grady on Thursday, it is now obvious that a fraction of Lincoln is still better than all of its bitter borough rival.
The Railsplitters cruised by Grady, 88-61, in Brooklyn ‘AA’ with five players sitting on the bench in street clothes - four for disciplinary reasons.
Kamari Murphy, a 6-8 power forward, fractured a toe in a win against Westinghouse on Tuesday and likely is out for two weeks, according to Lincoln coach Dwayne (Tiny) Morton.
More uncertain are the futures of Ethan Telfair, Jordan Dickerson, Shaquille Davis and Isaiah Watson, who each missed a ride to a game against St. Benedict's Prep on Dec. 31 at the Planet Athlete National Holiday Invitational in East Orange, N.J. They are "day to day," Morton said, in terms of their availability.
"I don’t know at this point," Morton said when asked when they might be allowed to play again. The suspended players also sat out Tuesday’s game against Westinghouse.
Filling in for Murphy was Shaquille Thomas, who had 10 points and 13 rebounds, including a resounding dunk early in the third quarter. Shaquille Stokes led Lincoln with 24 points and seven assists, while freshman sensation Isaiah Whitehead had 19 points despite not playing the entire second quarter.
Michael White also had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Railsplitters. Grady's Jabari Peters, who leads the division in scoring with 30.7 points a game, had a game-high 29 points, 18 in the third quarter. He scored 50 points against Lincoln in a season-opening loss.
Lincoln improved to 9-0 while Grady dropped to 1-7.
"I was happy with how we played today," Morton said.
