One facet of the Jets provided a silver lining on an otherwise forgettable loss to the Packers. After struggling on third down for the first six games, Rex Ryan's defense was masterful shutting down Aaron Rodgers & Co. The Jets forced the Packers into an average of 7.9 yards to go on third downs. The result? A defense that had allowed a 42% third-down conversion rate stymied Green Bay. The Packers converted just 2 of 14 third downs. Rodgers was 4 for 11 for 33 yards on those plays. A review of the game tape revealed that the Jets brought more than five-man blitzes just once on third downs, confusing the Packers' offensive line with their simulated pressure packages.
ISLAND-HOPPING
Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie played the left and right sides, respectively, of the defensive formations in the first half before the Jets altered their approach with Donald Driver out for the game with a quad injury. In the second half, Revis tracked Greg Jennings for the most part. Drew Coleman was lined up on Jennings in the slot for two third-quarter plays. Rodgers promptly completed two passes for 22yards to Jennings.
In the second half, Revis was thrown at twice and gave up an 11-yard completion to Jennings. ... Ryan's team gave up its first points in the first quarter all season after Steve Weatherford's failed fake punt gave the Packers a short field to work with. . . . The Jets didn't get Mark Sanchez out of the pocket very much on the designed bootlegs that had worked so well during the five-game winning streak. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer called only two roll-outs....Unofficially, the Jets had six drops, including three by Jerricho Cotchery in the fourth quarter.
