Inside the Big 12: Oklahoma State, Texas A&M share Players of the Week honors

Oklahoma State and Texas A&M recorded big wins over Baylor and Oklahoma on Saturday.  Today key players in those victories were honored by the Big 12 Conference as Players of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Brandon Weeden – Junior, quarterback, Oklahoma State

Weeden completed 34 passes for 435 yards, both single-game school records, in Oklahoma State’s 55-28 rout over Baylor.  Weeden’s quarterback numbers for the game were 34 of 48 passing, including three touchdowns.  For the season, the OSU signal caller has completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,982 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions.  Weeden set another school record in the Baylor victory by completing his 229th pass of the season.

This is the second time this season that Weeden has been named Offensive Player of the Week.  He received the honor for his performance in the Cowboys’ second game of the season, a 41-38 victory over Troy.

Defensive Player of the Week

Michael Hodges – Senior, linebacker, Texas A&M

Hodges made 19 tackles, eight of them solo, and was credited with two quarterback sacks for a combined loss of 16 yards as Texas A&M upset eighth-ranked Oklahoma 33-19 before a large homecoming crowd in College Station.  The 19 tackles were the most by an Aggie defensive player since former All-American and current linebacker coach Dat Nguyen came up with 20 tackles in the 1998 Cotton Bowl vs. UCLA.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Coryell Judie – Junior, kicker/defensive back, Texas A&M

Against Oklahoma Saturday night, Judie returned the second-half kickoff 100 yards for a  touchdown.  It was the first kickoff return of his career.  A kickoff return replacement for running back Christine Michael, who broke his leg in the Aggies game at Kansas the week before, Judie returned three kickoffs for 129 yards, and also made an interception from his cornerback position on defense.
